'Principle of Loving' was born in Portland, OR over the course of 2017. I wrote the demo in our back garden over a sample of half-filled wine glasses that I had recorded while babysitting at a friend's house. It's a song about loss, but also about being open-handed and forgiving. My grandfather, whom I loved dearly, passed away in early 2017 and his absence left a big hole in my life. This song is dedicated to him - it's a reflection of what life is like when we live open-handedly and lovingly towards each other.
lyrics
It's like the morning never happened
You say you heard me but you don't reckon
The record's skipping, it's not broken
Over and over again
Mosquitoes find me the darkness
I look so hard but I can't focus
They find me and they rob me
Of what I can't defend
It's the principle of loving
People take because they want it
We give because we love them
Over and over again
The afternoon it hides for cover
And in your eyes there's someone other
Between the shades of information
The sun speaks true, my friend
Four walls can't hold back all your secrets
If I don't bleed I don't believe it
I see your ghost, but I don't fear it
Over and over again
It's the principle of loving
People take because they want it
We give because we love them
Over and over again

Hell ya to And And And's songwriting, drummer Bim Ditson's post-punk mania and Berg Radin's swarm-of-bees guitar lines… there are few bands in PDX that get me this emotional involved. ♡ this band. Sama Dams
Andy played sax over Dirty Work and killed it over two other tracks that we've got in the vault. This release shows the depth of his great talents, and the shape of his unique musical mind. Aw yeah. Sama Dams
The songs on Kelly Reed’s latest are slyly self-deprecating, set to a backdrop of measured keys and guitar for maximum stateliness. Bandcamp New & Notable Apr 16, 2023
The Australian instrumental band juxtapose classical pianos and ambient swells with uncompromising, proggy post-metal. Bandcamp New & Notable Aug 9, 2023
Dreamlike songs from this London artist with gentle vocal melodies gliding through cloudy layers of guitar and synth. Bandcamp New & Notable Apr 10, 2022
