My relationship with the internet goes back a long way - I remember spending a little time in chat rooms goofing around in my late elementary years after we got our dialup connection. Once I hit the emotional upheaval of middle school, I was forever online - I started reading Ed's Diary on the Radiohead website, and joined a fan community message board, where I spent hours with people who were vastly older than me, and knew way more about music than I did. I played text-based RPG games and listened to the weirdest music I could to stake out piece of identity for myself while my friends started doing drugs and melting into alienation. '
I've had trouble with social media since it was rolled out in my freshmen year of college. It was easy to stay in and just zone out reading articles instead of taking the challenges of a professional life head on in person. When we all got smartphones, it started following us out of the house; now all aspects of life have this thread of shame running through it. I'm too easily wooed by the flattened world that lives online.
This demo release project got it's name from the final lyric of this track... you are always at home means that you never have the option to leave the comfort of the new digital confines. All is captured, filtered, and archived - it's a dark thought that I'm burdened by often. But the lyric has a heart - an invitation to good that I'd like to close on. Home has never been perfect; it's never been an unchangeable place. There are limits, but there are still doors and windows to open. I'm learning that more now than ever.
lyrics
I've been unsure
I wanna say that
I'm in love with the world
And happy to answer
Every roll-call it's holding
But are you here in my room?
A satellite answers with a beacon
Have you given into a stray eye?
It's so hard to want you
Home is the whole
Pieces are taken from
The lies you control
And I can stay hungry
With my seeds sown in trust
Do you magnify lust to know me?
Tears hung on a waiver
Keep those thoughts awake
One more dance
For the snake oil play
His fire burns here
Hemming us in
To paradise through the mirror
The strands of your voice
Cast to the wind and the phone
You are never alone
You are never alone
You are never alone
You are never alone
To wander
You are always at home

Hell ya to And And And's songwriting, drummer Bim Ditson's post-punk mania and Berg Radin's swarm-of-bees guitar lines… there are few bands in PDX that get me this emotional involved. ♡ this band. Sama Dams
Andy played sax over Dirty Work and killed it over two other tracks that we've got in the vault. This release shows the depth of his great talents, and the shape of his unique musical mind. Aw yeah. Sama Dams
The songs on Kelly Reed’s latest are slyly self-deprecating, set to a backdrop of measured keys and guitar for maximum stateliness. Bandcamp New & Notable Apr 16, 2023
The Australian instrumental band juxtapose classical pianos and ambient swells with uncompromising, proggy post-metal. Bandcamp New & Notable Aug 9, 2023
