"Winter" came out of a summer 20 Song Game that Micah and I did together several years back. It was song number 6 out of 15 - the closest that I've gotten to writing 20 songs in 12 hours! In the 20 Song Game you have to allow every idea to become a song if you want to have any chance of reaching the 20 song finish line before time's up. So my first thought that spurred the song was of a recent conversation with one of my housemates about how her mom used to call her "The Ice Queen"...oof. I sought to draw in winter images in a softer and warmer way. I wanted to express some of my biggest feels. This was one of those songs that poured out and wrapped itself up in a snowy blanket in the heat of summertime. I hope it brings up something for you as you listen.
